Capacity Building of Good Governance Competency Units at the Local Level Continues

The second training held within the new cycle of trainings in the application of the good governance concept and principles by the local self-governments in Serbia took place from 25 to 27 September 2019 in Belgrade, with the participation of representatives of 35 LSGs.

The principle of accountability and the rule of law were the main topics of the second of the seven trainings facilitated by the Swiss PRO Programme, with the support of the Government of Switzerland, for local self-government employees in order to enhace expertise of local administration.

During the three-day training, the participants gained knowledge about the importance of the process for applying the principles of good governance, as well as integrity and ethics in conducting public affairs. A very dynamic segment of training was the presentation on institutional mechanisms and good practices in the prevention of corruption at the local level, as well as local anti-corruption plans, which were held by Ksenija Mitrović and Dragana Krunić, representatives of the Anti-Corruption Agency of the Republic of Serbia.

The training participants also had the opportunity to attend ceremony of awarding certificates for 23 contact persons in local self-governments in South-East and South-West Serbia. After attending the first cycle of trainings for the application of good governance principles, these 23 LSGs employess have successfully completed the Training of Trainers, organised within the Swiss PRO Programme. At the event, it was emphasized that by applying the acquired knowledge, the representatives of LSGs contribute to the improvement of governance in their municipalities and cities, and thus increase the quality of life of citizens and the functioning of the local economy.
